CI Notices in the KJD Archives

karen jamieson dance is very pleased to introduce the addition of Cultural Institution (CI) NOTICES TO OUR WEBSITE.

These Notices IDENTIFY COLLABORATIVE CHOREOGRAPHIC WORKS THAT HAVE INCOMPLETE, INACCURATE, OR MISSING ATTRIBUTIONS, AND EXPRESS OUR DEDICATION TO AN ONGOING PROCESS OF ENSURING PROPER DOCUMENTATION AND REPRESENTATION THROUGH CONTINUOUS PARTNERSHIPS WITH ARTISTS AND COMMUNITIES.

CI Notices, created by Local Contexts, are a visual tool to publicly demonstrate an information and collecting organization’s (i.e. archives, museums, libraries, etc.) commitment to processes of collaboration and trust-building with Indigenous and other marginalized communities.

The Open to Collaborate Notice is an expression of our company-wide commitment to collaboration and partnership with Indigenous artists and communities. This Notice appears on our website as an image with accompanying text as follows:

Open to Collaborate Notice

Karen Jamieson Dance is committed to the development of new modes of collaboration, engagement, and partnership for the care and stewardship of past and future heritage collections in our archives.

Throughout our website we have also included Attribution Incomplete Notices, which signifies when the description of a work requires correction or further information, and invites editing and input from collaborators and community members. This Notice appears on our website as an image with accompanying text as follows:

Attribution Incomplete Notice

Collections and items in the Karen Jamieson Dance archives have incomplete, inaccurate, and/or missing attribution. We are using this Notice to clearly identify this material so that it can be updated, or corrected by communities of origin. Karen Jamieson Dance is committed to collaboration and partnerships to address this problem of incorrect or missing attribution.

The work of Karen Jamieson Dance has long been engaged in practices of cross-cultural collaboration with community groups and cultural institutions, often interacting with the land through site-specific works that involve deep engagement with people and place.

Throughout these endeavours, Karen Jamieson Dance has strived for respectful and reciprocal information management by observing protocols for acquiring permissions, engaging in ceremony, and maintaining a mission for our archives of repatriation, correct documentation, accessibility, and adherence to community-led use and reuse restrictions. We look forward to sharing updates and developments with you all as we embark on this process!
