Letter to Skidegate

Letter to Skidegate (2004) is a documentary film by Tanya Collinson and Karen Jamieson that looks at the creation process and impetus behind The Skidegate Project – a three year long collaboration and intense cultural dialogue between Karen Jamieson and the community of Skidegate in Haida Gwaii.

The Recollector

The Recollector (2009) is the story of Karen Jamieson collaborating with the community of Skidegate to create a dance/performance to honour Haida elder, Percy Gladstone; the poetic record of the journey to find Percy’s spirit and where two different cultures met to achieve this. Karen Jamieson and Tanya Collinson – a Haida videographer – with the help of filmmaker Ken Smith, used the footage acquired over the three years of The Skidegate Project to produce a documentary on this process of a western dance artist collaborating with an aboriginal community to explore and create an expression of spirit and spirit of place.
